Background of the Study
Learning Management Systems (LMS) are software platforms designed to facilitate the delivery, management, and tracking of educational content and student progress. In the context of nursing education, LMSs have become essential tools that help educators manage courses, provide resources, and track student performance. Ondo State University of Medical Sciences (OSUMS) has incorporated an LMS as part of its strategy to enhance nursing education and streamline course delivery. The integration of LMSs in nursing education has shown promise in improving access to learning materials, enhancing communication between students and instructors, and promoting a more flexible and student-centered approach to learning (Chikezie & Osundina, 2024). However, the effectiveness of LMSs in nursing education is still being debated, particularly regarding their impact on student engagement, learning outcomes, and clinical competency development.
Research suggests that the use of LMSs can help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, providing students with immediate access to resources such as clinical guidelines, video demonstrations, and discussion forums. Furthermore, LMSs enable nursing educators to track student progress in real time, providing opportunities for timely intervention and support (Aliyu & Ijeoma, 2023). Despite these advantages, challenges such as poor internet connectivity, lack of training for educators, and the difficulty of assessing practical nursing skills in a virtual environment have been identified as potential drawbacks to the successful implementation of LMSs in nursing education.
This study aims to assess the role of LMSs in nursing education at Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, with a focus on their effectiveness in improving student learning experiences, engagement, and clinical competencies.
Statement of the Problem
While the implementation of Learning Management Systems at Ondo State University of Medical Sciences has aimed to enhance nursing education, there are concerns about the extent to which the system improves student outcomes. Issues such as limited access to technology, inadequate internet infrastructure, and the inability of LMSs to adequately replicate hands-on clinical experiences raise questions about the overall effectiveness of LMS integration. Additionally, the adaptation of educators to the system and the level of student engagement with the online components of nursing programs are areas that require further investigation. Therefore, this study will explore the role of LMSs in nursing education at OSUMS and identify the challenges and opportunities for improving their use in enhancing student learning.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the role of Learning Management Systems in enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes in nursing education at Ondo State University of Medical Sciences.
2. To evaluate the effectiveness of LMS in supporting the development of clinical competencies in nursing students at OSUMS.
3. To identify the challenges and limitations associated with the use of LMS in nursing education at OSUMS and propose solutions.
Research Questions
1. How do Learning Management Systems enhance student engagement and learning outcomes in nursing education at Ondo State University of Medical Sciences?
2. What is the effectiveness of LMS in supporting the development of clinical competencies in nursing students at OSUMS?
3. What challenges are associated with the use of Learning Management Systems in nursing education at OSUMS?

1. Learning Management Systems significantly enhance student engagement and learning outcomes in nursing education at Ondo State University of Medical Sciences.
2. Learning Management Systems support the development of clinical competencies in nursing students at OSUMS.
3. There are significant challenges in the use of Learning Management Systems for nursing education at Ondo State University of Medical Sciences.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on nursing students and educators at Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, examining the impact of Learning Management Systems on student learning outcomes, engagement, and clinical competencies. The study's limitations include potential technological barriers, such as limited internet access or equipment, and the difficulty of assessing clinical skills through a virtual platform.

• Student engagement: The level of active participation and involvement of students in their learning process, including interaction with course materials, instructors, and peers.
• Clinical competencies: Practical skills required for effective nursing practice, including the ability to perform clinical procedures, assess patients, and communicate effectively in healthcare settings.
• E-learning: A form of education where students access learning materials and interact with instructors and peers through digital platforms, often using the internet.
